La Centrale SRL has recently completed the construction of a vertical farm with
iFarm Growtune in the city of Milan. Located in Northern Italy, Milan boasts a population of over 1.3 million people and is considered one of the main attractions in Europe.
The farm spans a total cultivation area of over 257 square meters, with an estimated production capacity of 2.4-2.6 tons of fresh produce per year. The construction was completed at the beginning of the summer of 2023, and as of the end of August 2023, the farm is fully operational.
La Centrale SRL employs the iFarm Microgreens technology to cultivate a large variety of highly nutritious microgreens for the domestic market, where there is a high demand for fresh, healthy, and environmentally sustainable foods.
The iFarm Growtune software is utilized to manage the farm remotely, providing the client with over 300 plant growth recipes and all the necessary tools and data to maximize yields and harvest top-quality produce. The iFarm Growtune SaaS platform was integrated with the client’s equipment through its universal API for third-party integration with ERP, CRM and e-Grocery.
In addition to the MENA countries, and the Asia-Pacific region, Europe is also emerging as a significant center where vertical farming and other precision sustainable agriculture methods are being widely implemented. Vertical farming presents numerous advantages, especially for countries like Italy that face land and water constraints. These benefits range from enhanced resource efficiency and sustainability to improved food quality and security.
