In Saudi Arabia has begun construction of an automated vertical farm using iFarm Leafy Greens technology. The farm with a total cultivation area of 2569 m² will be located in the city of Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom with a population of over 8 million people.
The client company Green Basket has already rented a farm space (~900 m² by floor) and paid for the design. Now construction work is underway and the premises are being prepared for the installation of vertical farm equipment. At the first stage, the customer plans to cultivate microgreens (growing area 1119 m², design capacity 17,512 kg/month) and leafy lettuces (1450 m², 5,365 kg/month), and then wants to build a strawberry farm iFarm Berries. It is planned that the lettuce farm will be put into operation in the first half of 2022.
The total production capacity of the farm is estimated at 23 tons per month. The salads and microgreens produced here will be sold on the domestic market, where the demand for fresh herbs, leafy salads and vegetables is very high. In the future, the client plans to scale up the experience of building a vertical farm in Riyadh and other cities in Saudi Arabia in order to feed compatriots with ultra-fresh, tasty and safe food grown on the basis of iFarm technologies.
